Giethoorn

Couple photography in a village without roads

No cars. Only water, birds and a boat gliding silently between the gardens.

In Giethoorn the streets are canals and the houses have thatched roofs. A village that looks like something out of a fairy tale.

This is the moment we came here to keep.

Why Giethoorn

The "Venice of the North", in its quiet version

Canals, wooden bridges, thatched farmhouses and lush gardens. Around it, the lakes and reeds of a national park.

For a couple this means calm and romance: a boat ride, a wooden bridge, a garden full of flowers.

It is the perfect place for an after-wedding session a few days after the wedding, for a pre-wedding shoot before the big day, or for an elopement just for the two of you.

The light

Three moments of the day, three different stories

In Giethoorn the light is soft and green, filtered by the trees. In the morning the mist rises from the canals.

Morning

The canals

Still water, mist and the village still asleep.

Afternoon

The gardens

Flowers, wooden bridges and thatched houses.

Sunset

The lakes

The water in golden light and reeds on the horizon.

Before you travel

Seasons, timing and what to wear

When to come

From April to October. Spring has flowers, autumn warm colours. In summer the village fills with visitors at midday, so we shoot early and late.

The time that matters

We start with the first light, before the visitors and the boats arrive. We keep the sunset for the lakes.

Styling

Romantic and natural: flowing dresses, linen, light colours that blend with the green. For the paths and the boat, comfortable shoes.

The experience with us

We know the village before the visitors arrive

We have photographed here. We know when the canals are quiet, which bridges have the most beautiful light and how to organise the boat. So you live your day, and we take care of the rest.

  1. Before the tripWe talk about dates, styling and the kind of images that move you. We plan the route together.
  2. The first lightWe start while the mist is still on the water.
  3. The bridgesWalking along the paths, a few gentle directions. We do not stage poses; we let you be together.
  4. The boatA quiet ride along the canals, the most romantic moment.
  5. Sunset on the lakesThe water in golden light, the most tender part of the day.

Will it be very crowded?

At midday in summer, yes. That is why we start with the first light, when the village is almost empty.

Do you travel from Greece for the shoot?

Yes. We travel with you or meet you there. Travel and accommodation costs are discussed from the start, so you know the full amount before you book.

Can we also have a film?

Yes, the photography can be combined with a wedding film. See examples on our Films page.

How early should we book?

The earlier the better, especially for the most popular seasons. Tell us your dates and we will let you know our availability.
