Wedding Film: What's Included, How Long It Lasts and When You Receive It

Insights · A guide for your wedding

A photograph holds a moment. A film holds everything around it: your mother's voice just before it breaks, the tremble in your father's hands as he opens the car door, the music, the laughter, the look you exchanged in front of the altar.

In ten or twenty years, your wedding film won't just be a video. It will be the only way to hear again voices you may no longer hear, and to show your children who you were on the happiest day of your life.

In this guide you will find what a wedding film from our studio includes, how each part of it is built, how long it lasts, when you receive it, and what makes a wedding film truly good.

Photography or film? Both

Photography and film don't compete. They complete each other. A photograph stops time and lets you look at a moment for as long as you like. A film lets time flow and puts you back inside the day, with its sound, its movement and its rhythm.

Much of what you will remember can't be seen in a photograph: the priest's chanting, your friends' teasing at the groom's house, the applause as you walk into the reception, the song you danced to. Only a film keeps these.

What we deliver

Every wedding film we make has three parts, each with a different role:

FilmLengthIts role
Trailer Film2–3 minutesThe emotion of the day in a few minutes. To watch again and again, and to share.
Main Film20–30 minutesThe story of the whole day, from the preparations to the party, with a beginning, a middle and an end.
Party FilmAbout one hourThe evening of the reception, with all its energy.

Trailer Film: your day in three minutes

The Trailer Film is the first taste of your film, and often the part you will watch most. It isn't a string of beautiful shots set to music. It is a short story with an emotional arc: it starts quietly with the preparations, rises with the emotion of the ceremony and peaks at the party.

To achieve that, we choose the strongest moments of the day and tie them together with music and with small pieces of real sound: a laugh, a wish, a phrase spoken at just the right moment.

Main Film: the story of the whole day

The Main Film, 20 to 30 minutes long, is the heart of your film. It follows the day in the order you lived it, like the chapters of a book:

  • The preparations. The bride with her friends and her mother, the groom with his friends. Because we work with a double team, both sets of preparations are filmed at the same time, without rushing.
  • Arriving at the church. The groom waiting, the car door opening, the first look.
  • The ceremony. The rings, the crowns, the Dance of Isaiah, with the sound of the service as it was heard that day.
  • The reception. The entrance, the first dance, the hugs, your friends on the dance floor.

Here there is time for everything that doesn't fit in a trailer: the conversations, the wishes, the faces of your people. It is the film you will put on for your anniversary, and the one your children will one day watch.

Party Film: the evening as you lived it

The Party Film is dedicated to the evening: about an hour of the reception, with the first dance, the cake, the fireworks if there are any, and above all your people on the dance floor. It is the film with the most energy, and often the one that will make you laugh the most when you watch it again.

For more traditional couples: by arrangement with you, we can deliver the whole party and the traditional dances, with more basic editing. That way you keep every dance and every relative who joined the circle, from grandfather to the youngest nephew.

Aerial shots with a drone

We use a drone for aerial shots: the church within the landscape, the venue, the sea, the town. These shots give the film something no camera on the ground can: a sense of the place where your wedding happened, of the setting in which your story was written. We fly where it is permitted and when the weather allows.

What makes a wedding film truly good

  • A story, not just shots. A good film has a beginning, a climax and an end. It isn't a series of beautiful images with no connection.
  • Real moments. The strongest shots are rarely staged. They are a look, a tear, a laugh nobody expected.
  • The sound. Music gives the rhythm, but the real sound of the day gives the soul.
  • The colour. Careful colour work makes the film look like a film, and not like a video from a phone.
  • The right pace. Every part lasts as long as it needs to move you, without becoming tiring.

When and how you receive it

Your film is delivered six months after the wedding. That may seem like a long time, but an edit that truly tells the story of a day can't be rushed. Among many hours of footage we look for the moments that matter, build the story, and work on the music, the sound and the colour, piece by piece. We don't rush, because your film will last forever.

You receive it online, on your personal page, where you can watch it whenever you like and share it with your people, wherever they are.

What to ask before you book a videographer

  • Which films will you receive, and how long is each one?
  • Is there a film of the whole day, or only a short video?
  • How many filmmakers will be there, and do they cover the bride and the groom at the same time?
  • Are drone shots included?
  • How long will it take, and how will you receive the film?
  • Can you watch a full film from another wedding, not just a trailer?

That last one is perhaps the most important. A three-minute trailer can be impressive. A twenty-minute film shows whether the videographer knows how to tell a story.

At our studio we cover every wedding with a double photo and video team, four professionals, so that no moment is lost. Find out more about the cost of a wedding photographer in Patra and see our films on the Films.

A film that grows with you

The first time, you will watch your film to relive the day. On your first anniversary, you will watch it to remember. Years later, you will watch it for the people who were there, for the way you danced, for the way you looked at each other. That is why we make it with such care: we aren't making a video for next week, but a film for your whole life.

Frequently asked questions about wedding films

How long is a wedding film?

From us you receive a 2–3 minute Trailer Film, a 20–30 minute Main Film covering the whole day and a Party Film of about an hour.

How long does it take to receive the film?

Six months after the wedding, online on your personal page.

Can we have the whole party and the traditional dances?

Yes, by arrangement with you. The whole party and the traditional dances are delivered with more basic editing.

Do you use a drone?

Yes, for aerial shots, where it is permitted and when the weather allows.

Do we need a film if we already have a photographer?

Photography keeps the moments; film keeps the voices, the music and the movement. Much of what you will want to remember, such as the chanting, the laughter and the song of your first dance, only a film can keep.
